Cold Stone Creamery, the ice cream chain known for folding mix-ins into its ice cream on a frozen granite slab, is opening a shop on the Upper West Side. When it does, it’ll be one of only two Cold Stone locations in all of Manhattan.

The new shop is coming to 2303 Broadway, between 83rd and 84th streets. The chain’s store locator lists it as “coming soon,” and no opening date has been announced yet.The storefront was most recently home to Kolorbar.
Cold Stone says its ice cream is made fresh inside every store. Customers pick a flavor and their mix-ins, like candy, fruit, nuts or cake, and staff chop and fold everything together with two spades on the frozen stone. Orders come in three sizes: Like It, Love It and Gotta Have It, which the company says run about 5, 8 and 12 ounces before mix-ins.
You can build your own, or order one of the chain’s Signature Creations. The best known is probably the Birthday Cake Remix, which combines cake batter ice cream with rainbow sprinkles, brownie and fudge. The current lineup also has a Dubai Chocolate Creation, with chocolate ice cream, pistachio cream, kataifi and chocolate shavings. Beyond Creations, the menu includes ice cream cakes, cupcakes, shakes and smoothies. For non-dairy eaters, there are sorbets and a plant-based Silk chocolate almond milk frozen dessert.

This won’t be Cold Stone’s first stint in the neighborhood. A combination Cold Stone and Tim Hortons used to operate at 162 West 72nd Street, between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenue. It was one of a handful of co-branded Cold Stone/Tim Hortons shops in the city, and it closed years ago.
Cold Stone’s one current location in Manhattan is at 350 West 42nd Street, on the corner of Ninth Avenue. An earlier location a couple of blocks east, at 241 West 42nd Street, has also closed.
The chain has a much bigger footprint in the outer boroughs. Its store locator currently lists 18 open shops across the five boroughs: eight in Queens, five in Brooklyn, two each in the Bronx and Staten Island, and the lone Midtown location. Along with the Upper West Side, two more are listed as coming soon, on East Fordham Road in the Bronx and Atlantic Avenue in Ozone Park, Queens.

Much of the chain’s recent growth in the city has been in Brooklyn. Last summer, Cold Stone signed a 10-year lease for a roughly 1,700-square-foot space at 815 Flatbush Avenue, according to Commercial Observer, which said at the time it would be the chain’s third Brooklyn store. That shop is now open.Founded in Tempe, Arizona, in 1988, Cold Stone is now owned by Kahala Brands and operates nearly 1,500 locations in about 30 countries. In August, the company said it had been named one of Yelp’s Fastest-Growing Restaurant Brands of 2026 as it announced plans to expand in Michigan. Its current seasonal menu is a tie-in with Warner Bros.’ The Cat in the Hat, available through December 1.
