The Calaveras, a Mexican restaurant which opened during the spring of 2019 at 949 Columbus Avenue (between 106th and 107th Streets), is expanding with a cafe next door.
Calaveras Cafe will be located at 947 Columbus Avenue, and the owners tell us they’ll be having a soft-opening for it next weekend.
The menu is still being finalized, but expect soups, salads, pastries, home made desserts and coffee. We’ll update you once we have some visuals and a full menu.
The Calaveras restaurant replaced the Fat Monk when they opened last April, and has since gained a lot of popularity. Online reviews range from 4.5 to about 4.8 across review sites. The restaurant has an upstairs and a downstairs bar, some pretty funky artwork, and modern Mexican dishes like their Negra Modelo beer battered cod. They also offer some pretty attractive deals which will hopefully be replicated in the cafe (like two tacos for $6 during “Taco Tuesdays” and a daily happy hour from 3-7pm).
