The Post’s report lists 75 West End Avenue (between West 62nd and 63rd streets) as the victimized address, part of the West End Towers development which features high-rise residences rich with amenities.

“It’s a safe building,” a 34-year-old lawyer who lives in the complex told the outlet. “There is security, a team of doormen. A lot of people live and work in the building.”

The burglar reportedly hit the jackpot, making off with a safe with more than $220,000 in cash and $160,000 worth of other valuables including seven pairs of Louis Vuitton sneakers and three Goyard pouches. The robbery happened just after midnight on Thanksgiving.

The Post reports that nobody was home at the time of the incident, and that a friend of the unit’s primary resident had been staying in the apartment for about a month. The culprit apparently broke the door jam to gain entry to the apartment, but it’s unclear how he or she got past building security.

A recent Post report citing data from the NYPD states that crime is up significantly on the UWS since 2023, with double-digit percent increases in robbery, burglary, retail theft, and shootings.

“I have never felt so scared in this neighborhood the way I feel now,” the victim of a recent carjacking told the Post.

An NYPD detective shared a similar sentiment and blamed a “lack of prosecution” for the rise in UWS crime.
