Miriam opened less than a month ago. Since the Israeli and Mediterranean restaurant starting serving customers at 300 Amsterdam Avenue (at the corner of 74th Street), the reception has been positive.
But on Thursday morning, residents and local leaders gasped at the sight of a hateful message written on the new restaurant’s outdoor dining shed: “f*ck Jews.”
When you see antisemitism, you have to call it out.

Miriam is a beloved Israeli restaurant that recently opened a new location on the Upper West Side, at Amsterdam Ave. & 74th St.
This disgusting antisemitic graffiti was scrawled there today. We must condemn this hatred everywhere it emerges. We can’t accept this as normal. pic.twitter.com/AXGVSHHszx

“Just passed antisemitic graffiti on the freaking UPPER WEST SIDE OF NEW YORK. We are TIRED,” wrote another Twitter user.
According to Patch, NYPD officers showed up a bit after noon to begin cleaning up the graffiti and were investigating the incident as a hate crim.
When we reached out to Miriam, someone wrote back simply stating “we are very grateful for kind voices like you during moments like these.”
Earlier this month, a crossing guard stationed on the Upper West Side was accused of making anti-Semitic remarks to both adults and children. She has since been removed from her post at 79th and Amsterdam Avenue.
