Another small business in the West 100s is preparing to say goodbye. Shiny Tea, the bubble tea shop located at 2667 Broadway between 101st and 102nd Streets, will be closing its doors by the end of April.

Dennis Chi, a staff member at the boba shop, confirmed the news to ILTUWS, sharing that “the lease here is expiring this month.” According to Chi, no exact closing date has been given to employees or the public. “We’re just letting the regulars know that we are closing, most likely by the end of this month,” he told us. No official reason for the closure was provided, and attempts to reach the owner were unsuccessful.
Shiny Tea has been a neighborhood staple for nearly a decade. The location first opened in 2016, before changing ownership in 2019. Known for its signature milk teas, fruit blends, and colorful toppings, the shop has drawn a steady stream of bubble tea lovers over the years.
The closure adds to a growing pattern of businesses struggling to survive along Broadway in the lower West 100s. In just the past month or so, several beloved spots in the area have closed, including Silver Moon Bakery, Abigail’s, and Shakespeare & Co.
Whether due to rising rents, changing foot traffic patterns, or post-pandemic economic shifts, the block-by-block transformation of this part of the neighborhood has not gone unnoticed. Longtime residents and loyal customers are watching familiar haunts disappear with increasing frequency, and wondering what will come next.
