Following the recent report that a suspect had stolen cameras from two individuals in Central Park – one a 34-year-old female, one a 73-year-old male – NYPD officials have issued an alert about a similar incident.
The first two incidents (which were reported) occurred respectively on May 31 and June 1, both in the early afternoon on or near West Drive in the 70s. The same man is suspected of both crimes, and surveillance imagery was shared by police earlier this month.
The NYPD now says that another camera theft happened in the park about a week earlier on May 23. This time it was near 94th and West Drive at about 3 p.m. when an 83-year-old man was taking pictures. The suspect, pictured below, approached him and “snatched the victim’s camera from his hands and ran away with it,” NYPD officials say. The suspect fled on foot to parts unknown. No injuries were reported.
Anyone with relevant information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by sending a direct message to @NYPDTips on Twitter.
The first suspect is likely doing his reboot of “Amish Paradise”.
The NYPD keeping up the good work. /s
