The neighborhood just got a little sweeter.
Amorino, the French international chain of gelato shops, has opened up a new location at 44 West 63rd street (between Broadway and Columbus Avenue).

The shop can be found right between the Empire Hotel and the site of the former Ed’s chowder house.
Amorino locations feature a wide variety of flavors including Amarena, Stracciatella, and Blueberry Cheesecake – alongside their takes on more traditional options like Chocolate Amorino, Vanilla from Madagascar, and Pistachio from Mawardi. For the non-gelato inclined, they also have a number of other sweets including Italian pastries, chocolates and macarons.
Founded in Paris in 2002, Amorino has since expanded across the globe, with locations from London to Mexico City to Dubai. Their reach extends deep into the states as well, with shops in cities including Boston, San Francisco and Houston.
This isn’t Amorino’s first foray into NYC either. The company has three other gelato shops in the city: one in the Village, one in Times Square, and another one right here on the Upper West Side at 414 Amsterdam Avenue (between 79th and 80th streets).
With only a few days in business, the new Amorino has yet to leave an impression significant enough to make one of our best-of lists, but it’s certainly a welcome addition to the neighborhood after the closure of Blue Marble Ice Cream earlier this year.

The shop opened a few days ago, though it isn’t yet operating for Amorino’s full hours of 11 a.m.-11 p.m. When we went to visit on Wednesday afternoon there was a ‘closed for training’ sign on the door. However, an employee assured us they had been open earlier in the day and would reopen again later.
I’m sorry but the runaway, obscene prices for gelato…..are we up to $10 a scoop yet?…makes me wonder who all these millionaires are amongst us who think nothing of wasting that kind of money for so little in return. How about 2 scoops and a club membership at these prices? What’s happening exactly?
Yeah, the price is high — but the question is the quality. If it’s worth it, it’s worth it.
Though, honestly? I haven’t found it to be great. Other ice cream shops on the UWS seem better to me — much more clearly worth the dear price they charge. This one? It’s ok.
The funny thing is that I tried them in Paris when they were a new thing — and there they were really good.
