All Angels’ Café Night Art & Music Series kicks off a new season with “Maps, Marvels, and Melodies”, an art exhibition and coffeehouse concert exploring the theme of journeys on Saturday, October 17th at All Angels’ Church.
The art exhibition features the paintings of Bethel University Art Department Chair Wayne Roosa, and internationally exhibited artists Chris Anderson and Emanuele Cacciatore. Wayne Roosa engages the multiple layers of memories, histories, experiences and reference of place through his colorful abstraction of maps. Chris Anderson explores both domestic and environmental landscapes by unpacking patterns and the way they work socially, visually and culturally. Emanuele Cacciatore employs brushes, stencils, and various industrial tools to capture the very act of painting.
NPR featured Indie-folk duo Lowland Hum and Americana singer-songwriter Jason Harrod headline the coffeehouse concert. Daniel Levi Goans and Lauren Plank Goans, the husband-and-wife duo known as Lowland Hum, create a sacred and intimate space both musically and visually; they perform their ruminative, haunting harmonies in front of a self-constructed illuminated installation backdrop. Jason Harrod is a Brooklyn-based performing songwriter known for generous melodies and poetic, image-rich lyrics. Harrod often begins performances by stating that he sings of “God, Women, and Geography.”
The gallery opening reception, free and open to the public, starts at 6:00 pm. The coffeehouse concert starts at 7:30 pm, and tickets are $12, free with student ID, and may be purchased at the door. All proceeds will go towards New City Kids, a Jersey City-based non-profit that equips teens with leadership skills and personal development. (www.newcitykids.org)
