A new coffee shop and bakery is on its way to the Upper West Side, and it’s arriving with fresh-baked burekas, a kosher menu and a name with a personal story behind it.

Café Alon is opening at 200 West End Avenue, between West 69th and 70th streets, in the ground floor of the 29-story condominium there. The shop’s website describes it as a neighborhood coffee shop and bakery opening in fall 2026, and a spokesperson told ILTUWS it’s expected to open in a couple of months if everything goes as planned.The café is being positioned as a high-end kosher Mediterranean spot, with a focus on baked goods made in-house. While the menu isn’t finalized yet, it’s expected to include a range of pastries, gourmet sandwiches and burekas baked fresh daily, along with a classic grilled cheese and a full lineup of coffee and other beverages.
Café Alon was founded by Ofer Puder, a restaurant operator based in Israel, and it’s named after his son, Alon. In Hebrew, the name means oak tree, and the spokesperson said the brand is meant to evoke that sense of stability and strength, along with family, warm hospitality and community.
Hours are expected to be 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, except Saturdays and Jewish holidays, when the shop will be closed.
