A Fancy New Sandwich Shop on 68th and Amsterdam

Le Petit Parisien, the French sandwich purveyors who named themselves after a prominent French newspaper during the French Third Republic, has taken over the space at 172 Amsterdam Avenue at West 68th Street.

The space was previously occupied Boule & Cherie, a French bakry that had been operating since 2015. The grand opening of Le Petit Parisien on May 10 marked its fourth establishment in New York City, joining their existing locations in the East Village, Harlem and on the Upper East Side.

“The flour we use comes from France and is baked with the most traditional techniques, in order to give the right amount of crisp,” touts Le Petit Parisien on their website.

Their signature sandwich, La Parisien ($11.80) comes with bone-in cooked ham and butter on a fresh baguette. Fans of the great French artist, Serge Gainsbourg, might delight in the Gainsbourg sandwich with bone-in cooked ham and comté cheese for $12.90. The Louis XIV comes with foie gras and fig confit for $35, and Les Versailles ($32.50) has créme fraiche, smoked salmon and royal Siberian caviar. There’s also a list of add-on options that range from 50 cents to a dollar.
