Two dozen organizations have joined forces to create the newly formed Jewish Climate Coalitio
Prior to the march, the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan will host the Jewish Climate Coalition’s pre-rally gathering on September 20 at 9:30 a.m., featuring Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, state director of the Sunrise Movement Miles Goodrich, teen and young adult speakers, and sign-making, using recycled materials. It is free and open to the public to attend, though advance registration is requested. Additionally, the JCC will host a pop-up “take action” station in the week leading up to the climate strike, and will hold several other related programs. “We are proud to combine efforts with other Jewish organizations to demand that the climate crisis is addressed and are pleased to host a special pre-rally gathering at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan,” said Rabbi Joy Levitt, executive director of the JCC. “It is an honor to welcome Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer to our community to spotlight this important issue.”
“As a Jewish community, we have to stand up and act as part of the global response to the climate emergency,” said Ace Leveen of the Jewish Climate Action Network NYC. “There is no better time than now, the month of Elul, leading into the Jewish High Holidays.”
Community Pre-Rally Gathering
Join the Jewish Climate Coalition in the JCC’s lobby to hear Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and teen speakers. Make signs for the climate strike and take the subway together as a group to Foley Square for the march.

Global Climate Strike
This event will begin at Foley Square, and the march will conclude in Battery Park with speakers and performers. Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old Swedish founder of the Fridays For Future movement, and New York–based youth leaders will speak.

Shabbat Shabbang Jr. Dinner
Geared toward families with children of all ages, this dinner will be themed around the environment with delicious food, Shabbat rituals, and more.

The day after the Global Climate Strike, come together in community with people dedicated to the earth and climate change for Havdalah, song, and a s’lichot-infused night of dedication and connection.
