We first learned that Italian restaurant Gabriel’s Bar & Restaurant would be closing their location at 11 West 60th Street from one of our readers (thanks Judi D). The closure came due to the fact that their building is being demolished. 11 West 60th’s alternate address is 1841 Broadway, which will become a new mixed-use tower with both apartments and commercial space.
After operating in the same spot since 1991, the Columbus Circle restaurant served their last meal at 11 West 60th Street on Wednesday, July 24th. Gabriel’s new location will be 40 Central Park South, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, and they now plan on opening in March of 202.
Eater earlier reported that the new Gabriel’s will be open for breakfast and will have eighteen seats with views of Central Park.
Gabriel’s Bar & Restaurant has long been popular among celebrity clientele. It was the setting of several movie premiere parties, celebrity birthdays and more. On Gabriel’s website, they link to a Kim Cattrall interview which took place at the restaurant.
They’ve long been popular for their pastas, gelatos, wines and desserts.
