When Comedy Went To School
A film exploration of American Jewish comedy
If you are more interested in laughing than singing, you may be excited about “When Comedy Went To School”, a film which includes archival clips, interviews, and performances of some of the most famous comedians. Learn about the great Jewish-American comics such as Jerry Stiller, Sid Caesar, Jackie Mason, Woody Allen, Joan Rivers, and Jerry Seinfeld. Directed by Mevlut Akkaya, Ron Frank, and Lawrence Richards, this exploration of American Jewish comedy claims that “the birth of modern standup comedy began in the Catskill Mountains”, also called “the Borscht Belt”, and the film gives us an inside look at this comedy boot camp. Hosted by Robert Kline, “When Comedy Went To School” is a must for anyone interested in the history of standup.
Take a look at the When Comedy Went to School Website for additional information on the cast, filmmakers, photos, and more. Tickets are $10.00 for members and $12.00 for nonmembers. Showing times are at 6:30pm and 8:30pm on select evenings from Wednesday, July 31st through Tuesday, August 6th (no showings on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday). This film is not up on the roof, but it just sounded too good not to include here! Visit the JCC website for tickets.
