A New Jersey-based gyro joint has locked down a prime corner recently home to a popular counter-service lunch spot.

The Gyro Project, which appears to be on a rapid growth path, will be opening at the end of February or beginning of March at 2062 Broadway (on the southeast corner of 71st Street), which until very recently was home to Cafe Metro. Cafe Metro opened in 2019, replacing Tasty Cafe, a similar counter-service lunch place with items like salads, sandwiches and soups.

“The Gyro Project is our modern take on what Greek food is all about,” states the forthcoming eatery’s website. “Our menu integrates high quality ingredients from House-stacked meats, to imported olive oils herbs and seasonings from the Motherland. We’re all about bringing the best Greek Street food to your table, that gets your taste buds begging for more. We’re all about making you Opa Your Mouth!”

According to their IG page, they’re also prepping to open locations at Newark Penn Station and in Kips Bay (respectively slated for February 4 and April 22). The Gyro Project’s original Fort Lee, NJ restaurant opened in 2023.

The menu includes an array of pitas and bowls, salads and platters, Greek desserts including frozen Greek yogurt and Loukoumades, and specialty fries with ingredients like oregano and crumbled feta.
