Last month, an Upper West Side woman got a phone call from someone pretending to be her down on his luck grandson.
The woman, a 78-year-old living on 62nd and Columbus, received the call on August 23 at about 10:30 a.m. The suspect told her he needed $9,500 for bail.
The woman agreed, and the suspect arranged to pick up the money with a courier later that day.
She handed the money over but snapped a photo which she shared with police. Police shared the image on Wednesday.
The man who arrived to collect the money was driving a white Toyota with license plate # T753385C.
The police description of the suspect is limited to “approximately 25 to 35 years age.”
Anyone with relevant information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by sending a direct message to @NYPDTips on Twitter.
a crystal-clear photo and the license plate. This shouldn’t take Scotland Yard.
I’m confused. They’re looking for the courier instead of the swindler? That’s the license plate for a ride share.
