Police are looking for a suspect who committed an assault on the Upper West Side this week, and the department is hoping the public can help.
The incident took place on Thursday, April 6 at about 11:10 a.m. A 65-year-old man was “operating his scooter in front of 214 Amsterdam Avenue” (the address of DuPont Cleaners, just off the southwest corner of West 70th Street) when an “unidentified individual struck him in the arm with an unknown object causing a small laceration.”
The suspect fled southbound on Amsterdam Avenue, and the victim refused medical attention at the scene.
Surveillance cameras captured the suspect at the incident location.
Anyone with relevant information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the CrimeStoppers website or by sending a direct message to @NYPDTips on Twitter. All calls are strictly confidential.
um, there may be another explanation for the “assault”, though the person fleeing does suggest assault.
clarification is needed.
Perhaps the rider was one of those who ‘terrify’ so many UWS pedestrians by riding on the sidewalk. Perhaps the scooter was ‘motorized’.
Even if the scooter wasn’t motorized it isn’t allowed in the sidewalk. Is the sidewalk where this occurred?
geoff:
Right, you noticed the problem with this story, that is until we’re given fuller accurate information.
However, the pedestrian fleeing doesn’t cast the pedestrian in a good light.
“Fled” or walked away from a man screaming at her? I can see it either eay. Wished we had video
Anon:
True we don’t know.
But, as you apprehend, there’s possilbly good reason for a pedestrian to have hit a scooter operator.
Given the fact that it seems the man was breaking the law by riding his scooter on the sidewalk, I think ILtUWS should take this photo down. We have not been given enough information to judge who was actually in the wrong.
