The Upper West Side’s 20th Precinct will be hosting “Build The Block” meetings for business owners and residents this month.
The precinct states on its flyers that “This is a new way of doing business for the NYPD, and we need your help to make it work. We want to hear from a broad range of voices about what it will take to make all the residents of our neighborhood feel safe and secure. Please join us for what we hope will be a lively and productive discussion.”

Why do they continue to block off 82nd street between Amsterdam and Columbus??

I’m glad they’re doing this but this weekend I passed about 8 cops near the museum of natural history all standing together without masks.
1) It’s mandated that they wear them (I can post a link anyone who doesn’t believe that)
2) I felt powerless to say anything so that in and of itself is an issue.
3) They have the opportunity and duty to lead by example but aren’t.
4) It felt brazen, defiant and a bit partisan.
The photo shown on the email link to this article shows a diverse group of cops, (who do NOT represent the bulk of the cops at the 20th Precinct) wearing no masks and not socially distanced from each other. Is anybody with a brain in charge of this stupidity?
This is another Public Relations narrative without any substance. We have a serious Squatters’ encampment…yes, they’re public squatters! “Homeless” is the general category. “Public Squatters” are the subcategory. …and the 20th Pct command has dropped the ball due to liability concerns. Liability over residents’ safety! We support the NYPD but they’re making it difficult to sustain such support. And this is not a rank and file issue. It’s the actual executive Command of the 20th. Whatever they call it, it isn’t community policing. Our residents are living in fear while the squatters, are getting high, defecating in boxes, blocking sidewalks and even showering with building hoses. Really. So go sit in a forum that’s more PR than actual substance.
Thank you NYPD for your hard work, and patience, mostly dealing with the no win situation you’re constantly subjected to.

Of course, prejudgement prevails before you even try. You’re wrong, and blamed by same person above who admits they didn’t approach you, yet, somehow, you were brazen, defiant, and partisan. (Wow!) Another suggests youre misrepresenting the diversity of the NYPD without knowledge of truth, but sure sounds culturally sensitive and intellectually superior. (Nice!) Another lectures on squatters, scratch, homeless challenges that you didnt cause and are given little suppport to police. If you tried to move them and accidentally fell over one, you’d then be subject to same people taunting you for cruel force. Unless of course, it was the NYPD that brought 500 squatters to the hood to historic, high visibility buildings and areas?? (It wasn’t) My neighbors complain, yet vote for the same pandering leaders, from UWS, through City to State, that put you in this mess, never connecting the dots, from above to our streets, that create these messes. And likely, given UWS voting habits, many support the movements to defund, but want clean, safe streets outside their buildings.
Thanks again, You’re still trying, and still getting blasted for it. God bless the hard working New Yorkers of the NYPD. Every day, you show true meaning of calm in storm, and ‘turning the cheek’. I would have lost my job with you in 6 months. Instead, I’ll live in neighborhoods that were once unlivable without you. Once this insanity stops, I know you’ll be unsung heroes still getting lectured to and yelled at! Best to all. STAY POSITIVE test negative.
