Gluck, who directed the 2023 hit Anyone But You, is once again teaming up with Universal. According to Deadline, One Night Only is based on a 2024 Black List script by Travis Braun, which Gluck has rewritten. The story centers on two strangers scrambling to find partners on the one night of the year when premarital sex is legal, in a society where it’s otherwise banned.

Per an August report by ScreenRant, “the original storyline was a comedy tweak on The Purge”—except instead of crime being legal for a day, it’s intimacy.

The film stars Monica Barbaro, Callum Turner, Swanmy Sampaio, Tom Johnson, and Amanda LeCount. Barbaro was recently nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of Joan Baez in A Complete Unknown, and is known for her roles in Top Gun: Maverick and Netflix’s “FUBAR.” Turner has starred in The Boys in the Boat, Masters of the Air, and as Theseus Scamander in the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise.

Deadline reports that Gluck will produce the film through Olive Bridge Entertainment alongside Jacqueline Monetta, with Erik Baiers and Jacqueline Garell overseeing for Universal.

Filming has also been spotted in SoHo, and the movie is set to be released on August 7, 2026.
