The New York City Hospitality Alliance has released its second annual District Dining Guide, revealing the favorite restaurants and dishes of elected officials across the five boroughs—and Upper West Side Council Member Gale Brewer is showing some local love.

Her pick? Manny’s Bistro, a French restaurant located at 225 Columbus Avenue (between 70th and 71st streets).
In a recent segment, Brewer dined at the eatery with NY1’s Roger Clark, Andrew Rigie of the New York City Hospitality Alliance, and local celebrity Tony Danza, who’s been known to sing outside the restaurant on occasion.
“Great French food,” Brewer said of Manny’s. “Personable owner who can also sing. Warm atmosphere. Local patrons. Long-term wait staff.”
Brewer’s go-to dishes are the mussels and “all salads,” some of which include a classic Niçoise, a Belgian endive salad with blue cheese and walnuts, and a traditional Frisée with poached egg and lardons.
Manny’s Bistro opened in 2020, just months after the pandemic shuttered restaurants citywide. Its namesake, Manuel “Manny” Colon, had managed the space when it was still known as Bistro Cassis—a longtime neighborhood staple that closed earlier that year. Determined to carry on its spirit, Manny launched his own vision in the same location, reimagining it as a warm, welcoming “living room” where guests could gather to share food and stories.

The interior reflects Manny’s personal touch—from the oxblood-hued cushions and marble tabletops to the artwork gifted by friends and patrons. More than a restaurant, it’s a passion project powered by gratitude and resilience. In 2019, Manny underwent a heart transplant. Less than a year later, amid unprecedented challenges, he opened Manny’s Bistro.
In the years since, the restaurant has become a familiar and cherished destination for Upper West Siders. With Brewer’s latest endorsement, even more New Yorkers may be discovering what locals already know: Manny’s isn’t just a place to eat—it’s a place to feel at home.

Another reason (there are many) to not eat at Manny’s.
LOL I was going to make a similar comment.
And what a dumb article. “Political LeaderS”? They mention one person who went there once. She lives on the UWS; she’s going to go to restaurants. She’s also not much of a leader.
