The Upper West Side is coming together to support one of its own after a beloved neighbor, Mark Weinberg, suffered a medical emergency earlier this month.

On Sunday, August 10, Weinberg experienced a series of seizures, which led to the discovery of a large brain tumor. As he prepares for surgery and the difficult treatment journey ahead, friends and neighbors have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help ease the burden on his family.

Mark and his wife Liz are longtime Upper West Siders and the parents of two young boys—Sam, 9, and Ezra, 7. Over the years, the Weinbergs have been active members of several local communities, including PS 87, the Manhattan 1st Ward and NYNY Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and their UWS building and neighborhood. They also have close ties to the Berkshires, where they spend time in West Stockbridge, MA.

“Over the years they have given endlessly of their time, love, and resources to the benefit of so many,” reads the GoFundMe campaign. “Now it’s our great privilege to give back to them in a time of great need.”

Weinberg is a professional photographer who has built a thriving business over the years—but with an extended period away from work ahead, the family is facing mounting healthcare costs and uncertainty.

As of writing, the campaign has raised close to its $160,000 goal from 738 individual donations, with several contributors having made four-figure donations.

Donations will help the Weinbergs cover medical expenses and provide stability as they navigate the road ahead. To contribute or learn more, visit the GoFundMe page here.
