Upper West Side Building Fire Kills 72-Year-Old Man

A building fire on the Upper West Side led to one death and three injuries this weekend.

It happened on Saturday on the fourth floor of 208 west 88th Street, a five-story walkup rental building between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue.

Videos of the scene shared on Citizen shows the FDNY extending a ladder to the roof of the building as concerned passersby gathered and sirens blared.

WABC was first to report the incident, which resulted in the death of a 72-year-old man who was found unresponsive at the scene. He was pronounced deceased after being transported to an area hospital.

Three firefighters also suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The FDNY was called at about 8:16 p.m. and the fire was deemed under control by 9:09 p.m. A total of 12 units and 60 fire & EMS personnel were deployed.
