At first glance, Teddy’s Collection seems like a classic gift shop but it’s actually something much more special. When long-time UWS resident Stefanie Fischel opened Teddy’s Collection in August 2024, she envisioned curating a selection of thoughtful items sourced from global artisans. She also wanted every item in her store to support meaningful causes, a goal she’s accomplished by partnering with organizations that give back to their communities.
The result? A store packed with one-of-a-kind gifts designed to contribute to a host of worthy causes, from protecting animals and the environment to creating jobs in developing economies to empowering women-owned businesses worldwide.
Here are just three of the amazing items you can buy and the causes they support:
The Elephant Parade: These stunning, colorful elephant statues are hand-painted in Thailand. When you buy a statue, you contribute to Asian Elephant Conservation, with 20% of sales supporting NGOs Elephant Family and Friends of the Asian Elephant.
Ocean Sole: This Kenyan social enterprise turns pollution into art! Discarded flip-flops from coastlines become vibrant sculptures of animals, promoting environmental conservation and raising awareness about marine debris.
Think Outside: Founded in 1998, Think Outside creates eye-catching sculptures and outdoor art pieces crafted individually by artisans in developing countries. Using recycled raw materials and a meticulous finishing process, no two items are the same.
