On Monday, Thyme & Tonic announced on social media that the restaurant will be closing next week.

“After nearly six years of service, we’ll be closing this chapter to make room for something new. Our last day of service for Thyme & Tonic aka PrimeThyme will be November 5th. We’d love to welcome you in and serve you some of your favorites dishes before we say goodbye to Thyme (at least in this location). We’ve loved hosting you and celebrating with you through every season, every menu, and every pop-up concept that kept things fresh and fun. Thank you for being part of our story and for the endless enthusiasm and support through it all. Here’s to what’s next.”

Thyme & Tonic opened at 474 Columbus Avenue (off the corner of 83rd Street) in 2020, dubbing itself a “garden to glass” bar and restaurant serving mostly vegan and gluten-free fare.

When one patron asked why they were closing in the comments section, the restaurant replied, “We just haven’t been generating sufficient business to continue along this path.”

“Didn’t you just announce a name change? This is so surprising!” another customer chimed in.

The owners–the same people behind Modern Bread & Bagel–are now planning to open a kosher Mexican restaurant in the same space, according to Yeah That’s Kosher. “Replacing Thyme & Tonic will be a Mexican fusion restaurant, offering full sit-down dining with waiter service,” the outlet writes, adding that more details will be announced soon.

Meanwhile, Modern Bread & Bagel has expanded to the Upper East Side and Midtown, and the same team opened Columns Wine Bar on the Upper West Side in early 2025.
