Last fall, an elderly man and woman crossing an Upper West Side street were struck by a car. The man died about a month later, and the driver has just been arrested.
The incident took place on Thursday, October 26 at about 4:12 p.m.
NYPD officials say the man and woman, respectively 89 and 87, were crossing West 70th Street and Riverside Boulevard when the driver of a 2019 Cadillac Escalade struck them. EMS transported both pedestrians to New York Presbyterian Weil Medical Center while the driver remained at the scene.
While both the man and woman arrived at the hospital in stable condition, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on Thursday, November 23.
Following an investigation, the NYPD announced that on February 1 at about 3:00 p.m. on the Upper West Side, 64-year-old Mohammad Malik was arrested on charges of Failure to Yield to Pedestrian.
The deceased has been identified as Leonard Sugin, who lived at 201 West 70th Street.
