Strength Without Intimidation: A New Kind of UWS Gym

Carolyn Osborne has launched PWR NYC.

If you’ve ever walked into a gym and immediately wanted to walk back out, you’re not alone — and you’re exactly who PWR NYC was built for.

The new boutique training studio, now open at 2284 Broadway (between 82nd and 83rd streets), was founded by longtime trainer and neighborhood local Carolyn Osborne. And while its turf flooring, sleek equipment, and small-group offerings look impressive, it’s the energy inside that makes this place different (as noted in their reviews, which are all 5-star).

The sleek new fitness studio is located at 2284 Broadway (between 82nd and 83rd streets).

“I remember being 15 and staring down at the weight floor from the safety of an elliptical, too intimidated to step off,” Carolyn tells us. “I didn’t feel like I belonged.”

Years later, after training in big-box gyms and working with clients from every background, she decided to change that. The result is PWR NYC — a personal training space designed to be welcoming, empowering, and entirely judgment-free.

At PWR NYC, one-on-one sessions are tailored to your body, your goals, and your life. Group classes are kept intentionally small — capped at six people — and include strength circuits, sports-style workouts, kettlebell training, and more. It’s an intentionally curated mix that balances structure with flexibility.

In addition to one-on-one and small-group classes, PWR NYC also offers duet sessions — perfect for friends or partners who want to train together.

The coaches here work with a wide range of people: prenatal and postpartum clients, older adults, high school athletes, total beginners. It’s not about hitting a particular aesthetic. It’s about feeling strong and supported — in a space that actually listens.

“There’s no pressure to be anyone but yourself here,” Carolyn says. “You’re not being measured against some idea of what fit is supposed to look like. The goal is confidence, strength, and community.”

PWR NYC is sleek but not showy, modern but not sterile. It’s built with intention, from the floor plan to the flow of the sessions. But what really sets it apart is the vibe — one that comes from trainers who actually care, and from members who aren’t there to compete with anyone else.

And unlike most gyms, PWR NYC doesn’t charge a membership fee. Everything is pay-by-appointment — making it flexible for busy New Yorkers.

For now, PWR NYC is operating by appointment only. Locals are encouraged to stop by, check it out, or book a free consultation online.

“This has been a dream for a long time,” says Carolyn. “But my favorite part is still just getting to meet people, help them move better, and watch them realize they’re stronger than they thought.”
