“From fragrant rice noodles to delicious local snacks, every dish allows diners to experience the nature and culture of Yunnan,” the restaurant’s website states.

The original Greenwich Village location opened in 2018, followed by a Jersey City outpost earlier this year.

The menu features a variety of rice noodle dishes, with and without broth, along with rice bowls and hot and cold appetizers.

One popular plate is their Signature Yunnan Crossing Bridge, described as “Slow-simmered chicken broth, paired with black-bone chicken, premium ribeye slices (a small amount of foam may appear during cooking), pork slices, fish slices, bean sprouts, tofu skin, and crispy pork lard.”

Chef specials include a Steamed Pot Chicken Soup, Yunnan Fried Stuffed Tofu, and Dai Style Stir Fried Flank Steak. Some interesting apps include Yunnan Style Lotus Fries and Crispy Fried Pork Strip.

South of the Clouds has a generous amount of influencer support, with praiseworthy posts from accounts including @dine365, @nycfoodiebabe and @njfood_travels.

The restaurant’s Greenwich Village location has a Google review score of 4.3 out of 5 stars; the Jersey City location has a score of 4.5.

Other restaurants set to open soon in the Columbia area include Palestinian restaurant Ayat and Xi’an Famous Foods.
