Remember the days when you could get two slices and a soda for $5? That relic of a deal is alive and well at the newly opened Salvatore’s N.Y. Pizza, located at 924 Columbus Avenue between West 105th and 106th Streets (previously home to Pie Pie Pizza). Officially open since Monday, May 19, ILTUWS stopped by to check out the spot and sample the fare.

With counter-style seating up front by the window, white-painted brick walls, and images of the George Washington Bridge and Empire State Building on display, this cozy pizza shop–which has another location in the Bronx–definitely harkens back to the classic slice shop aesthetic. They also offer a $6 special if you want one of your cheese slices to be pepperoni. Deals aside—how good is the pizza?

True to New York form, Salvatore’s pizza is thin and crunchy, while having excellent coverage with their toppings. You can throw some of your own pizzazz on top with staples from the fixins bar, including crushed red pepper, garlic, and oregano. This would definitely make a clutch lunch spot or quick pickup destination.

We gave their buffalo wings ($9.75 cash / $10.14 card) a shot, too. Salvatore’s menu lists two prices—one for cash and one for card. This order comes with eight wings, though we were lucky and got nine. They’re served with celery and blue cheese. A couple of the wings were on the small side—maybe that’s why we got an extra—but the flavor was big, with a nice kick that wasn’t overwhelming.

You can also opt for a five-piece order ($6.99 cash / $7.27 card), and another option includes fries. The five-piece with fries costs $9.75 / $10.14, while the eight-piece version is $12.50 / $13.00. Chicken fingers are also on the menu—a four-piece order is $7.99 / $8.31, and ten chicken nuggets go for $5.99 / $6.23.

Salvatore’s offers specialty pies, including the Napolitana ($27.00 cash / $28.08 card) for a large. It’s topped with olive oil, garlic, Parmesan cheese, black pepper, fresh mozzarella, fresh tomato, fresh basil, artichoke, and sauce. Their House Supreme is also $27.00 / $28.08 and comes loaded with sausage, pepperoni, green peppers, onions, and black olives. At the same price point is the Grandma Sicilian, made with homemade tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and basil, fresh garlic, and Parmesan cheese.

There are daily specials at Salvatore’s, too. Two large plain pies with 10 wings and a two-liter soda go for $42.99 cash / $44.71 card. You can also opt for Salvatore’s Basket special, which includes 3 chicken fingers, 5 mozzarella sticks, 5 wings, and 8 onion rings for $18.00 / $18.72.

We’ll definitely be back soon. It’s nice to see another opening on West 105th after several recent closures, like Shakespeare & Co. and Silver Moon Bakery.

Salvatore’s is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. There’s seating inside for about ten.
