There’s certainly no shortage of notable names and famous faces on the Upper West Side, but some who have called the neighborhood home over the years may surprise you. Case in point: Robert De Niro.

The iconic thespian is known to many as the king of Tribeca, but for over a decade, his main address was far north of Canal Street (on Central Park West, to be exact). And now, according to The Real Deal, his ex-wife Grace Hightower has sold the former couple’s swanky spread to the tune of $18 million after putting it on the market in 2024.

Prior to divorcing in 2018, De Niro and Hightower — a socialite and fellow actor — purchased the palatial pad at The Brentmore (located at 88 Central Park West at 69th Street) for $20.9 million in 2006. After a fire in 2012 caused by a lint-clogged dryer, extensive renovations were completed. The result? A 5,700-square foot duplex with five bedrooms (including a palatial primary suite), four bathrooms, a private elevator landing, a massive media room and a series of swoon-worthy dressing rooms fitting for an A-list couple. Meanwhile, the windowed eat-in kitchen is stacked with pricey appliances from Wolf, Sub Zero and beyond. But of course, all of this pales in comparison to the jaw-dropping views of Central Park.

The Brentmore is just one of many Central Park West addresses boasting a roster of boldfaced names, though its celebrity pedigree is particularly impressive. Residents have included the likes of Paul Simon, Clive Davis, Sting and photographer Annie Leibovitz, who sold her duplex co-op for $10.625 million last year. Similar to De Niro and Hightower, she also took a loss on the apartment (originally purchasing it in 2014 for $11.24 million).

“Co-ops have gotten pretty beaten-up, pricewise,” Compass broker Leonard Steinberg told The Wall Street Journal when the former De Niro residence first hit the market. Originally built in 1910 by the architectural firm of Schwartz & Gross, the building is a true gem of the Beaux-Arts era, down to its striking stone facade (read more about its fascinating history here).

In another Hollywood twist, De Niro and Hightower’s home previously belonged to disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein. See the listing here for more pictures.
