A popular Philly-inspired eatery is making its way to the Upper West Side.

Olde City Cheesesteaks is planning to open a new take-out and delivery location at 201 Amsterdam Avenue (between 69th and 70th streets), we’ve heard through the Lincoln Square BID. The space was previously home to DiDi Dumpling, which closed in February after opening less than a year earlier.

Olde City was founded in 2022 by Evan Stein, a native of the Philadelphia suburbs who previously operated a similar NYC-based concept called Shorty’s. The menu focuses on classic Philadelphia fare, including cheesesteaks made with bread from Calandra’s Bakery in Newark, which Stein tells us is handmade daily (and popped in the oven upon arrival to Olde City). Cheesesteak options include traditional toppings like Cheez Whiz, mild provolone, Cooper Sharp American, and cheddar, as well as specialty variations with ingredients such as broccoli rabe, garlic aioli, chipotle barbecue sauce, and mango habanero.

In addition to cheesesteaks, Olde City offers items like roast pork sandwiches, chicken cutlets, buffalo wings, fries, and salads.

Olde City currently operates locations in Chelsea, NoMad, Hell’s Kitchen and on the Upper East Side, which opened late last year. Google reviews for these locations range from 4.4 to 4.7.

Stein tells us they’re aiming to open the UWS location by mid-October.
