Looking to connect with other parents while giving your baby a gentle introduction to early learning? Stephen Wise Free Synagogue’s Early Childhood Center (ECC) has just launched a brand-new series of “baby and me” classes designed specifically for children aged 3 to 12 months — and their parents or caregivers.
Held in the ECC’s newly designed play space, these Reggio Emilia-inspired morning classes are a wonderful opportunity for families to bond, play, and begin building community. Whether you’re a first-time parent or just new to the neighborhood, these sessions provide a friendly, low-pressure environment to meet other families in the same stage of life.
Classes will run on Wednesday and Friday mornings across two sessions:
-
Fall Session I: September 17 – November 7
-
Fall Session II: November 12 – December 19
To kick things off, the ECC is offering free trial classes open to all on Wednesday, September 17 (Early Explorers) and Friday, September 19 (Senses).
Here’s a quick look at what to expect:
-
Early Explorers (Wednesdays, 11:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.): Babies explore open-ended materials, messy play, and sensory experiences in a nurturing, play-based setting.
-
Senses (Fridays, 11:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.): See it, hear it, smell it — explore Judaism like never before! With songs and stories led by Cantor Dan and Rabbi Sam, your family will engage all the senses.
And here’s a major plus: Synagogue membership is not required to participate!
More Than Baby Classes: A Holistic Approach to Early Education
While the ECC’s new baby classes are a great way to ease into a school community, they’re just one part of a broader, highly respected program that has been serving families since 1949.
The ECC offers educational programs for children from 12 months to 5 years old, all grounded in the Reggio Emilia philosophy — which treats children as capable, curious, and full of potential. From the Seeds of Wonder “grown-up and me” class for toddlers, to the full-day 4s and 5s programs with specialist-led art, STEM, and library activities, each stage builds on the last in thoughtful, developmentally appropriate ways.
Teachers at ECC either hold or are working toward master’s degrees, and the school’s intimate class sizes allow for personalized attention and connection.
Parents also appreciate the ECC’s flexibility: there’s an extended-day option for 3s, weekly Shabbat celebrations, and a summer camp open to both ECC and non-ECC families.
From rooftop and indoor playgrounds to a bright art studio and even a water machine, the environment is designed to inspire joy and curiosity in every child.
Whether you’re looking for a place to bond with your baby, find community, or begin your child’s educational journey, the ECC at Stephen Wise Free Synagogue is worth exploring.
