PurewaxNYC recently opened on the second floor at 53 West 72nd Street (between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue). The owner, Heena, tells us she worked at MaxWax for the last 19 years until it closed earlier this year. Maxwax was located at 167 West 74th Street and closed in September after 21 years. “PUREWAXNYC is your to-go destination for safe and expert hair removal in New York City,” the company’s website states.
A FamilySearch Center recently opened at 241 West 77th Street (between West End and Broadway). “They have computers and helpers to help people find documents to support their family tree,” a tipster wrote to ILTUWS. The space was previously home to the Collegiate School For Boys before it moved to 301 Freedom Place South (between 61st and 62nd streets). FamilySearch has locations all around the world and is operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which “provides FamilySearch free of charge to everyone, regardless of tradition, culture, or religious affiliation,” according to their website.

Tsumo, an omakase restaurant on East 28th Street, opened its second location at 782 Amsterdam Avenue (between 98th and 99th streets) on Friday, December 13. “To celebrate the opening of Tsumo Upper West Side we’re offering a complimentary add-on piece of A5 Wagyu, Scallop and Truffle with our omakase to all our dining guests the first month from December 13th through Jan 12th at Tsumo UWS!” the eatery wrote on its Instagram page. Tsumo offers an 11-course lunch for $48 and a 13-course dinner for $58.
A business called AlterNative has signed a lease at 2333 Broadway (between 84th and 85th streets). We’re not sure what this business is, but according to @TradedNY, it will be opening in the space between Panera and Naya, and the asking rent for the 800 square foot space was $16,000 per month. A tipster tells us they saw signage for HEYTEA at 2815 Broadway (between 108th and 109th streets). The company was founded in China in 2012 and currently has over four-thousand locations worldwide, according to its website. “In 2012, HEYTEA revolutionized the tea industry by introducing the first-ever Cheese tea, combining authentic real tea with real dairy cheese,” the site states, while also claiming to be the “founder and pioneer of the new-style tea industry.” The company’s nearest location can be found at 1407 Broadway (between 38th and 39th streets).
