Rapawzel Dog Grooming & Daycare recently opened at 211 West 80th Street (between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue). Rapawzel offers dog and cat grooming, dental cleaning, daycare, pet boarding, dog walking and in-home pet sitting. “Founded in 2012, Rapawzel has grown from a single grooming salon in Astoria, Queens, into one of the most recognized pet care brands in New York City,” states a recently issued press release. “The company now operates seven locations across Astoria, Bayside, Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Manhattan’s Upper West Side, South Slope, Brooklyn, Flatbush, Brooklyn, and Greenpoint, Brooklyn — with mobile grooming services extending into New Jersey.”

Salomon is opening at 270 Columbus Avenue (between 72nd and 73rd streets), per signage spotted by Reddit users. The sneaker brand will be taking over the space previously home to Johnny Was, which shut its doors very recently. Known for its performance-driven footwear and outdoor gear, Salomon has built a strong following among runners, hikers, and trail enthusiasts. In recent years, the brand has also gained traction in the fashion world, with its distinctive, technical designs becoming increasingly popular as everyday streetwear, as noted by outlets like GQ and Harper’s Bazaar.Alo, which sells yoga apparel, is opening at 211 Columbus Avenue (between 69th and 70th streets), per a recent post by the Columbus Avenue BID on Instagram. The space was previously home to Club Monaco, which closed last year (after part of its space was leased to Madewell in 2019). Alo, founded in Los Angeles in 2007, is an activewear brand known for its yoga-focused apparel and “studio-to-street” approach to design. The company built its reputation on performance pieces like leggings and sports bras, and has since expanded into a broader range of loungewear, outerwear, and accessories intended for both workouts and everyday wear.
Neuhaus Chocolates is opening at 189 Columbus Avenue (between 68th and 69th streets)–we also learned about this one from a Columbus Avenue BID Instagram post. Neuhaus is a Belgian chocolatier founded in 1857 and widely credited with inventing the praline. The company is known for its assortment of handcrafted chocolates, including pralines, truffles, and seasonal collections, often presented in gift boxes. In addition to its retail offerings, Neuhaus locations typically serve as both boutiques and takeaway spots for a range of classic Belgian confections.

School of Math just opened at 226 West 79th Street (between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue). “School of Math offers a fun and engaging way for your child to get ahead, but achieving mastery of concepts in Arithmetic, Algebra and Geometry,” the business’ website reads, adding that classes and tutoring sessions are available for children in grades 3 through 12. “We are Harvard and Northwestern University trained math teachers that understand the limitations of the standard U.S Math Curriculum, which is focused on breadth instead of depth.”Have a news tip?
