A press person for Con Edison confirmed the location of 84th and West End Avenue. He wasn’t able to provide an address, but said it appeared to be a single building that experienced an outage.
A police call shared on Citizen indicates the incident address was 500 West End Avenue (between 84th and 85th streets), and one of the officers on the call described “constant explosions underneath.”
An FDNY official told ILTUWS that the call was first requested at 5:16 p.m. and as of 7:54 p.m. on Monday, the FDNY and Con Ed were still working on it. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was not confirmed. We’ll provide updates if and when we learn more.
Wonder how many repair requests from Con Ed guys in the field Con Ed management has ignored in the last 5 years regarding this bit of West End?
