The Aviary + The Office Permanently Close

The Aviary and The Office, two fancy cocktail bars at the Mandarin Oriental, have closed permanently, Eater reports.

Nick Kokonas, the founder of Alinea – the restaurant group which owned both bars – told Eater that the decision to close the bars was made before the coronavirus pandemic began. Kokonas told the outlet that both bars had already been scheduled to close on April 15th.

Both bars have been removed from the hotel’s fine dining section.

The Aviary and The Office both opened in 2017.

The Mandarin Oriental temporarily closed on March 26th, laying off 50 employees the following day. As of now, the hotel plans to reopen on June 1st.

Since early March, the Upper West Side has lost a number of establishments for reasons outside of the coronavirus crisis. These have included Fine & Schapiro, Le Pain Quotidien, Columbus Gourmet, and most recently The Cottage.
