Man Punches Woman in Face, Attempts to Steal Her Bag

Police are looking for a male suspect who attempted to rob a woman on the Upper West Side this weekend, assaulting her in the process.

It happened at about 11:35 p.m. on Saturday near 79th and Broadway, NYPD sources say – where another incident took place in mid-May. (That incident was carried out by a different suspect.)

The suspect approached a 42-year-old woman and asked her if she had a light for his cigarette. He then “began to punch her numerous times about the face and arm,” police say, before trying to remove the victim’s bag. He was not successful, and fled eastbound on West 79th Street.

The victim did not require medical attention as a result of this incident.

Police describe the suspect as a balding male with medium complexion, last seen wearing a blue jacket with writing on it and a yellow shirt.

Anyone with relevant information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by sending a direct message to @NYPDTips on Twitter.
