Police say a man was discovered unconscious outside of 200 West 79th Street (at the corner of Amsterdam Avenue) at 9:38 a.m. this morning. EMS arrived and declared the individual dead at the scene, and stated that he had sustained injuries which were consistent with a fall from an elevated position. An investigation is ongoing, the NYPD official we spoke with said.
The building–an 18-story co-op called The Gloucester–also contains a barbershop and a parking garage on 79th between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. According to both our tipster and a Citizen app user, the body was discovered near those two businesses (the NYPD only had the information provided in the first paragraph).
We’ll provide updates if and when more information is released.

Probably got alcohol poisoning at one of “those bars” just up Amsterdam.
Not gonna say the name, to avoid litigation.
What a stupid comment
David,
Say why you think so.
Because someone tragically lost their life and you are using it as an opportunity to push an unrelated agenda and make unsubstantiated allegations
David,
Possible alcohol is hardly unrelated.
And it’s well known that people drink way too much in some of the bars along Amsterdam in the 80s.
poisoning.
The man who died today was a very good and kind man.
He just had the misfortune of being depressed and not knowing who to ask for help.
Jay: shame on your sorry ass for being such cold-blooded unfeeling, uncaring piece of human sewage.
Max,
The person died for a reason, that I speculate alcohol poisoning is hardly a cold blooded.
It’s not like I’m some NY Post commenter saying X deserved to die.
What part of “injuries consistent with a fall” escaped your comprehension?
Paul,
Okay, alcohol can still be a factor.
You just keep digging the hole deeper and deeper. Learn when to shut up.
Learn when to stop.
I’ve lost people close to me who have taken their own lives. It is deeply disturbing to learn that they struggled so badly. That this was the only way to end their pain. My thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of this individual. May his soul rest in peace.
