Get yo’ grits! Jacob’s Pickles, the now-classic Upper West Side mainstay that serves comfort food and other American cuisine like sausage gravy–smothered chicken, Canadian poutine, and BBQ baby back ribs, has officially opened their new location at 680 Columbus Avenue (between West 93rd and 94th streets).

On Tuesday night, the pickle purveyors, in business since 2011, held an event to showcase their new digs. ILTUWS was in attendance; here’s what we saw.Previously operating between West 84th and 85th Streets on Amsterdam Avenue, guests will appreciate the now-iconic Jacob’s aesthetic, with white tiles, dim lights, and great music (Gorillaz and The Heavy’s song “Our Special Place” hit just right last night) at the new Columbus location.

While Amsterdam had a deeper layout from the street, the new Columbus spot feels more open and wider, with double the seating, said owner and Upper West Sider Jacob Hadjigeorgis at the event, bringing it to around 300 seats. We also met Jacob’s father (Jacob Sr.), who lives nearby, and both agreed this new location will be great for the business and the neighborhood. Their previous home will now be remodeled to become another business venture, Velvet Cowboy. It appears, and tastes, like Jacob’s Pickles hasn’t missed a beat with the new domicile. Our mojito was crisp and refreshing (gotta love the fresh mint), while the Jam Jar, a specialty cocktail at Jacob’s Pickles with house-infused strawberry farmers gin and fresh-squeezed lemonade, made a nice summertime drink—or anytime, for that matter. Our compliments to Karl, the bartender. Jacob’s is also known for their martini service; the uptown classic with Neversink gin or ALB vodka, dry vermouth, and dill tincture would probably not disappoint James Bond (shaken, not stirred).

While most know by now, Jacob’s pickles are cured in-house, including the big dill kosher cukes, sweet horseradish, and lime jalapeño. Don’t sleep on their candy red beets, a great appetizer or side dish. Further, Jacob’s seafood towers are excellent for sharing. The grand tower is available a la carte, with options including tuna tartare trio, fish roe mousse, pickles, white bean hummus, artichokes, roasted red peppers, olive medley, roasted eggplant dip, chilled seafood salad, and shrimp cocktail. Their Maine mussel towers are another nice share option, if you didn’t know.Jacob’s Pickles’ new Columbus Avenue spot proves the Upper West Side favorite is still doing what it does best—serving up comfort food, cocktails, and good times.
