A new eatery called Freshly Bagel has just opened in the former storefront of Gigi Cafe, located at 2067 Broadway (between 71st and 72nd Streets). To the detriment of the many regulars they had accumulated over the years, Gigi Cafe closed in late 2018.

The left hand side of the store (as you’re walking in) is the only part that’s been set up as of now. And it looks almost identical to Gigi Cafe’s former display.
There’s nothing on the internet about Freshly Bagel existing in other locations, so perhaps this is a brand new venture.
Those who live and work in the immediate area will now have another light lunch option. For a while, it seemed like Cafe 71 would be the last remaining eatery in this category. Tasty Cafe, which was located on the south east corner of 71st and Broadway, also closed last year.
We’ll just have to wait and see whether Freshly Bagel has fresh enough bagels to justify using the word in their name … (and whether their other options serve as an acceptable replacement to the soups, salads and sandwiches we got from Gigi Cafe).
