Frank Mac’s is the modernized reincarnation of a classic Irish bar, family-owned and operated on the UWS since 1953. Known as McAleer’s until late last year, the bar located at 425 Amsterdam Ave (80th) has been adored by many generations, and it will continue to be – but now it’s got a fresh look, a unique cocktail menu, fun bar games and absolutely DELICIOUS NEW PLATES!!
Born in October of 2018, Frank Mac’s continues McAleer’s tradition of being a place of celebration: many special occasions have taken place here over the years; wedding proposals, birthday parties, family reunions and more.
And it’s easy to see why: when corporate chain restaurants are constantly replacing mom and pop operations, the cheers-like atmosphere of this reliable Irish go-to will always make Upper West Siders feel at home.
The Space
Frank Mac’s boasts rustic red brick walls and age old tiled floors, and is especially enjoyable in the warm weather; a wall of glass doors fully opens to the outside. So even if you are sitting inside, the outside comes to you!
And … their sidewalk cafe is now open!!
The Food!
Everything on the new menu is home-made. And the prices are very reasonable. They’ll also be offering a special brunch soon .. so stay on top of them!
Enjoy Frank Mac’s creative Celtic twists like their shepherd’s pie with Guinness gravy, fries with spicy Irish ketchup, corned beef and cheddar croquettes, or their super popular Guinness Burger, served with aged white cheddar, Guinness sauce, bacon and crispy shallots!
We should also mention their Irish nachos, made with shredded corned beef, cheddar, green onion and sour cream!
And they’ve got all the bar favorites like crispy wings, chicken fingers, mac and cheese and a super delicious giant garlic pretzel.
Or – if you’re looking for higher-end dining – try their shrimp cocktail, pasta and chicken dishes, home made soups and freshly made desserts.
But don’t fret – they’ve still got your favorite pub grub like killer wings and burgers!

We shared a couple of pretzels and wings. The pretzels were huge! The wings just right. Try the Amsterdam. It’s super refreshing. A bartender original. The beer list has something for everyone. Stop in Frank Mac’s. You’ll be happy you did.

Why not choose a bar with some built-in activities?
Frank Mac’s has Wednesday trivia nights where great prizes are given out, Jenga and lots of fun board games, and a dart board (which is actually in a separate room, which, when you think about it, should be the norm for safety reasons …)
They’re also child friendly! They have high-chairs and strollers are welcome. Meetups for moms take place here, and members of CMOM and the AMNH get 10% discounts.
So head over to Frank Mac’s to relish in the rustic charm of a good ole Irish pub, eat and drink well without overpaying, enjoy a round of darts and get some warm and friendly service.
