Fire on 78th Street Causes Minor Injuries, Damage to Local Business

On Sunday evening, the FDNY received a call about a fire at 169 West 78th Street, a five-story building between Amsterdam and Columbus avenues. FDNY officials say they received the call at 11:08 p.m. and deemed the fire under control by 11:48 p.m.

Two people sustained injuries; one was transported to a nearby hospital while the other refused medical attention at the scene.

The cause of the fire, which started on the building’s third floor, is currently under investigation.

The building has five apartments and is also the longtime home of SlowBurn Personal Training Studios, owned by Fredrick Hahn.

“It was a shock to wake up Monday morning, only to find out that the entire third floor of 169 W. 78th St. where my personal training studio has been for 28 years was completely gutted,” Hahn told us. “Massive water damage was in my studio and I’m now in the process of cleaning everything up and hopefully reopening for business on Monday. One nice thing about the people of the upper West Side is that they are so supportive, kind, and helpful. There’s no place like home!”
