A July 16 press release from the NYC Parks Department states that cyclists will be temporarily rerouted “from the greenway to the park’s waterfront pedestrian path between 59th and 72nd streets on weeknights.” This reroute will start on July 19 and is expected to last two weeks, though it will only be in effect between Monday and Friday beginning at 8pm. Signs will be posted to ensure cyclists are aware of the route change.
This is being put in place due to upcoming overnight construction in the area.
This phase of construction is said to be the sixth and final phase of the Riverside Park South project, “which will complete the addition of 32 acres of new parkland to New York City’s park system. The upcoming overnight work is on the pedestrian mall adjacent to the greenway, necessitating the diversion of construction and emergency vehicles onto the greenway.”
Cyclists can take the regular bicycle route on weekends and during the day.
