The Citi Bike dock has been temporarily removed from 76th between Columbus and Amsterdam avenues (thanks to Kiki for the tip).
Steps away from the MS 245 Computer School playground, and near the Grand Bazaar on weekends, ILTUWS spotted the absent dock—indeed missing on Friday, August 29—its absence marked by the changing shades of pavement.

A “No Parking / Tow Away Zone” sign has also been posted by the NYC Department of Transportation. It restricts parking from Friday at 6 p.m. to Saturday at 6 a.m. for road milling, the process of grinding off the top layer of asphalt or roadway surface. Road milling is typically done in preparation for paving, although there are exceptions where no or only partial milling is required. You can watch this DOT video for more information, but it’s common for this work to be done at night in order to minimize traffic disruptions. Mayor Adams also made a milling video more recently in 2023 with some fun factoids sprinkled in.

ILTUWS reached out to Lyft, which has overseen the Citi Bike system since July 2018, when it acquired Motivate, the company that previously owned and operated Citi Bike. A Lyft representative confirmed: “The station at West 76th Street by Columbus Avenue was removed for milling and paving.” They added, “Milling will begin this week, followed by paving.”
Fear not—the station should return “in a few weeks,” they said. Lyft also informed us that they had proactively posted about this being the “peak milling and paving season” on X.
The Citi Bike service page is updated to share removed stations, and both the Citi Bike and Lyft apps show temporarily removed stations with a grey pin. Recent removals include West 95th Street & Broadway and Riverside Boulevard & West 67th Street, both taken out for DOT road work.
