Ellen Reid SOUNDWALK “is an immersive audio experience tailor-made for Central Park, free to the public, and created with social distancing in mind.”
The soundtrack was created to encourage “calm reflection and introspection,” and was made possible in part by the support of Wellcome’s international program called Mindscapes, “a cultural exploration of mental health.”
Says Reid, “These are unprecedented times; we’re all experiencing the anxieties of living in an uncertain world. We miss our communities, and we miss the very thing that makes our cities special: the people. I hope SOUNDWALK will inspire us and make us feel connected to something larger than ourselves. It is meant to serve as artistic nourishment – a place to recharge, reconnect, and re-energize.”

“The experience is guided by the listener: the path you choose dictates the music you hear, and no two visits will be exactly the same.”
The description of the app also states that the music becomes more nuanced as you adventure deeper into the park.
The soundtrack features performances by members of the New York Philharmonic, Young People’s Chorus of New York City, Poole and the Gang, and the SOUNDWALK Ensemble.
Because reception can be spotty in Central Park, it is suggested that you download and install the app over wifi before heading to the park.
SOUNDWALK has also been launched in Saratoga, NY, and is scheduled to launch in Philadelphia, PA, Vienna, VA, and Jacksonville, OR in 2021.
