A Capital One bank that has been a fixture on the corner of Amsterdam Avenue and West 72nd Street for nearly three decades is preparing to shut its doors for good next month.
The branch at 175 West 72nd Street will close on April 22 at 5 p.m. According to FDIC records, the branch was established in August 1998 — making the upcoming closure the end of a nearly 28-year run at the location.
The closing fits a broader national pattern. Capital One has relentlessly closed bank branches over the past decade, shuttering more than 70 percent of its locations as customers shift to online and mobile banking. New York was among the states that lost the most bank branches in 2025.
