Brodo Broth Company (brodo is Italian for broth) first opened in 2014 from Chef Marco Canora as a takeout window attached to his East Village Italian restaurant, Hearth. Their Upper West Side location, at 2144 Broadway (75th Street) will be opening on Friday, July 27th.
So what exactly is bone broth and why should Upper West Siders drink it?
While some Upper West Siders may expect to get a spoon with their bone broths, these broths are meant for sipping, not spooning and are served in paper coffee cups for easy drinkability.
Bone broth is said to be rich in minerals that support the immune system and the skin, and contains healing compounds like collagen, glutamine, and glycine. Per Brodo Broth Company’s website, some of the health benefits of their bone broth are feeling better, weight loss, improved gut health and strengthening your joints. Additionally, their website emphasizes that these broths have up to 10g of protein per cup and no added sugar.
With a variety of broths such as Texas Two-Step (Beef broths, spiced bone marrow), Sipping Beauty (Hearth broth, fresh parsley, lemon wedge), Oishi Oishi (Chicken broth, shiitake tea, reishi powder, roasted garlic purée, grass-fed butter) and Deeply Rooted (Hearth broth, ginger, fresh turmeric) these broths promise to offer unique flavors with plentiful health benefits as well.
