Allbirds is now open at 201 Columbus Avenue at 69th Street. Joie, which closed in December 2019, was the last tenant to occupy this space.

Launched in 2016 in New Zealand, Allbirds designs and sells footwear and apparel while keeping eco-friendliness at the forefront of its mission. (It’s tagline is “Light On Your Feet. Light On The Planet”). The first shoe the company released was the Wool Runner, made from “New Zealand superfine merino wool,” wrote the New York Times in a 2017 article which discussed how popular the shoes had become in Silicon Valley.
Other materials utilized by the company include tree, sugar and Trino, which the retailer says it crafted “from a hefty serving of responsibly harvested eucalyptus tree fibers and a handful of ZQ Merino wool.”
Other materials Allbirds uses include recycled nylon and recycled bottles. “One recycled plastic bottle equals one pair of Allbirds laces. Reincarnation is a beautiful thing.”
Allbirds has another NYC location 73 Spring Street in Soho.
