NYC beaches will be closed to swimmers and surfers on Friday and Saturday, thanks to Hurricane Dorian.
It’s not really beach weather anyway. But if you were planning on enjoying the ocean during one of the last summer weekends, you’ll have to find something else to do.
The NYC Parks Department website states:

The City’s 53 outdoor public pools and 650 spray showers will remain open during this time with normal operations.
The National Weather Service predicts a dangerous rip current threat with possible ocean swells up to 10 feet on Friday and Saturday. This will affect all Atlantic Ocean beaches.
[/perfectpullquote]It is predicted that Hurricane Dorian may cause rip currents and ocean swells of up to 10 feet along NYC coastlines. In addition, expect winds of up to 15 miles per hour and an inch of rain.
The National Hurricane Center expects the storm to begin moving north on Friday.
BREAKING: We’re expecting dangerous rip currents and 10 foot swells from Hurricane Dorian. For New Yorkers’ safety, we’re CLOSING all city beaches to swimming and surfing starting Friday through Saturday, September 7th.
