Lucky Pickle Dumpling Co – at 513 Amsterdam Ave, comes from the owner of Jacob’s Pickles and Maison Pickle, and seems to be the most talked about new Upper West Side restaurant in town. It does taste like pickles … there’s no mistaking that flavor. And it’s amazing!

Here’s the hot food we indulged in when we went …

Chicken dumplings with noodles. Like a really stacked chicken noodle soup.

UPDATE (6/12/2018): Lucky Pickle has now been open for about a month and a half. Let’s see what the crowd thinks.

Google score: 3.5 out of 5 stars, based on 15 reviews.

Yelp score: 4 out of 5 stars, based on 64 reviews.

Facebook score: 5 out of 5 stars, based on 9 reviews.

Seamless score:  4.5 out of 5 stars, based on 101 reviews.

Overall, the pickled ice cream seems to be the most popular item, while the dumplings are leaving folks a bit disappointed.

While the scores above are mixed (with some obviously being strong), reading through the entries will show you how people are feeling the ice cream versus everything else.

A lot of rabid Jacob’s Pickles fans also seemed to have very high expectations. Perhaps leading towards their less than flattering reviews of Lucky Pickle Dumpling Co.

Obviously, reviews are varied, so check out their Yelp and Google pages (or just go eat there) to make your own call!

Just a couple thoughts from patrons:

Google Review (3 stars): “This place could do, should do, a lot better, because it comes from such an excellent company (which owns Jacob’s Pickles and Maison Pickle). The Pickles were the only thing that were tasty. Everything else was bland (other than the Dan Dan noodles which were spicy but not that good). Would love to see them try to improve – maybe bring the chef from next door ?”

Yelp Review (4 stars): “Came here for the pickle soft-serve and felt it was worth the trip! It’s pretty decent-sized and is $5 (regular) or $6 with chocolate topping. The flavor is interesting – sweet and creamy, and it actually did taste a bit pickle-ish, but not so much like jarred pickles from the grocery store, but more like cucumber flavor + tartness (a bit vinegar-y).

I was not as impressed by the dumplings, however. For over $1 a piece (they come in 5’s), they tasted as if they were made by someone who has never eaten dumplings before. If you’re really into pickles, I might recommend the home-made spicy pickles they have, but otherwise, I would just recommend coming here for the pickle soft-serve.”
