A 20-year-old man died Wednesday evening after he was found with injuries indicating a fall from an elevated position on Broadway, police said.
Officers responded to a 911 call at 5:58 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, reporting an unconscious person in the vicinity of 2182 Broadway at West 77th Street, according to the NYPD (the residential address is 227 West 77th Street, the Larstrand). When they arrived, they found the man unconscious. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police haven’t released his name pending family notification, and the investigation is ongoing.
Neighbors discussed the scene in a thread on the r/Upperwestside subreddit on Wednesday. Several people said they’d seen or heard what happened, and others described a large response of police, FDNY and ambulances at the intersection. One commenter said the street was closed off, and another said they’d called 911 at 5:58. Many commenters offered sympathy to the man and to those who witnessed it. “Sending love to all who witnessed this. Please take care of yourselves,” one wrote.
Scenes of the emergency response were also shared on Citizen. One video shows a first responder performing chest compressions on the man, while others show the road cordoned off.
