A prewar walk-up on the Upper West Side has sold for more than double what its previous owner paid for it, and that owner only bought it in early 2024.

The five-story rental building at 211 West 85th Street, between Amsterdam Avenue and Broadway, just traded for $11.5 million, according to Crain’s New York Business. The seller had picked it up in January 2024 for $5.3 million, meaning the building more than doubled in value in a little over two and a half years.

Part of the jump likely comes from work done in the interim. Since the 2024 purchase, permits have been filed with the Department of Buildings to renovate at least six of the building’s 13 apartments, according to DOB records.

The new owner is Redac, a Midtown-based real estate firm that works with Japanese companies and investors buying in the U.S. One apartment is currently on the market: a four-bedroom, two-bathroom unit asking $9,800 a month, according to StreetEasy.
